Pride Edition BASKET BAG celebrates the LGBTQ+ community

Our newest Pride Edition Basket aims to promote awareness, encourage dialogue and foster acceptance within our community.

Incorporating LGBTQ+ symbols, such as the pride flag, into traditional antique crafts can be a powerful and essential way to celebrate and honor diversity in our modern world. By thinking globally and acting locally, we want to promote awareness and build acceptance through this unique craft made by multiple hands within a close-knit community. 

Designed by TOINO ABEL founder Nuno d'Alcobaça, the pattern was inspired by Quasar's progressive pride flag, where he added linen to the side stitching to represent ecology symbolically.

Pride symbols in crafts performed in small communities like ours can have several implications and effects. Here are some considerations:

  • By incorporating the pride symbol into a craft, the community is committed to inclusivity and representation of LGBTQ+ individuals. It sends a powerful message of acceptance and support to community members who identify as LGBTQ+.  

  • The presence of the pride symbol in craft can help raise awareness about LGBTQ+ issues and create opportunities for dialogue and education within the community. It can promote understanding, empathy, and discussions on topics related to sexual orientation and gender identity.  

  • For LGBTQ+ individuals within the community, seeing the pride symbol integrated into local craft can foster a sense of empowerment and pride in their identities. It can help them feel seen, acknowledged, and validated, contributing to a greater sense of belonging.

  • Including the pride symbol in traditional craft can also spark conversations about social progress, acceptance, and diversity. It encourages exploring evolving societal norms and promotes an inclusive mindset within the community.

As in the previous edition, we partnered with ILGA Europe and ILGA Portugal - organizations committed to advocating for LGBTQ+ rights. Every order will contribute 20% of the proceeds to one of these institutions.

For this year's Pride Edition, we commissioned poet Duarte Braga to create a piece that thoughtfully explores themes of tradition, community, and the significance of LGBTQ+ values. Brimming with erudite references and Portuguese culture, the text showcases a remarkable sensitivity and understanding of others. We are excited to share this insightful work with our audience.
